Financial Assistance

Financial Assistance

In Gaston County, 17.2% of the population (35,812 people), live at or below the federal poverty level. It is not difficult, therefore, to understand how one event – whether it is lack of affordable health care, job loss, hospitalization, or car repair – could result in a family being unable to pay their monthly expenses, including food or medicine.

Since 1952, the CRO has consistently provided direct services to the poor, working poor, elderly, disabled, and others who find themselves in a crisis. These services are received through a personal interview and assessment procedure.

Information for Those Seeking Assistance

The CRO provides financial assistance for rent/mortgage, utilities, water, and heating fuel. We assist people in obtaining affordable housing through rent and utility deposit assistance. Persons seeking financial assistance will undergo an interview process to determine the need, available resources, involvement of other agencies, and a realistic plan to move them towards relative independence. When you come to request assistance from the CRO, you are asked to bring this information.
